About the Author

Barry L. Gold

I am a pharmacologist with a BS in zoology from the University of Cincinnati and a PhD in pharmacology from Boston University. I was a postdoctoral fellow at Yale and a faculty member at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, USUHS. I have two adult children from a previous marriage. I was a single parent for ten years after that divorce and I've since remarried and we are the proud parents of a 3-year-old old baby boy. We live in Putnam County, New York.

I write daily and my piece, "New Shoes," which was released last year in an anthology, "Warren Adler Short Story Contest Winners," available from Stonehouse Press and as an e-publication. My novel "Operation Independence Day" is available from Amazon for Kindle, iBooks, Sony, Barnes & Noble and others, and I welcome feedback from readers.

About the Book

subsequent synthesis of opioids, and the birth of the global pharmaceutical industry. From Barry I. Gold's point of view as a scientist, he offers thoughts about gaining control of prescription opioids through Federal legislation. With the tragic epidemic of deaths from overdose, chiefly from illicit sources, he shares how the U.S. could lead in eradicating world trade of illicit drugs. The story also looks forward and asks how new treatments offer hope in treating addiction.
